I just bought this camera and ran into this conversion problem. I didnt receive the cd with the software which made it tougher. Then I read the posts! I clicked away at it and within an hour had a few options.
Win AvI Convertor works well- Convert the .tod to mpeg2 and then use in Vegas. Also downloaded a version of cyberlink software and opened and converted the files to mpeg2. I am now updating my Vegas software to 8.0b, because the patch is supposed to fix this problem.
Other then the hour spent finding ways to convert, this is a great camera for 850!

Hey Paul. Thanks for the comment. I've actually heard from some other folks from Australia off-line as well. Apparently there's something about the software you can purchase there that enables the .TOD to MPG file conversion. Here in the states, sadly, it doesn't work, or at least doesn't work as easily. Glad to hear you aren't having troubles, though.

I have had the JVC GZ-7HD camera since Nov 07.and the Cyrberlink software opens a .TOD files. When you open a .TOD file it converts it to a HD Mpeg 2 file and saves it to a dir on your computer that you pick and uses that file to edit. Or you can load that HD Mpeg 2 file into, Sony Vegas or other editing programes that handle Mpeg 2. Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus, Premire, will all handle the HD Mpeg2 file. But if have Ulead VideoStudio 11Plus it will open JVC .TOD files in there native format and you can edit them on its time line, then save it to any format you like.

So much for you can't open JVC .TOD files with the supplyed software you can open it, Jason Falls you just did not try to hard did you.

Smorty - I hear ya. Which one did you buy?

Thanks Mr. Shea, for clarifying. I must have tried to call on a weekend, but I was sure it was a week night. Bad luck on my part I suppose.

MadHat - Good to hear you're at least up and running. Send us a link to your videos!

I had seen the same issue popping up when I was researching the purchase. Since I already had Vegas Platinum I went with the Sony HD. Works like a charm...if I could only figure out hwo to adjust the damn camera setting :)

We had the exact same experience with that JVC cam. We also returned it and bought another brand.
