Do You ooVoo?

by · March 31, 2008

If you’re really into a certain tool and use it to connect with someone, you should make sure they don’t work for a competing tool. That’s the lesson I learned Saturday night when I Skyped Scott Monty to see what he was up to. Scott, you see, works with ooVoo, a video chat and conferencing platform that probably has Skype scrambling to come up with something better.

A New Look, A New Outlook

by · March 29, 2008

Social Media Explorer LogoWelcome to the new look of Social Media Explorer. No, the layout hasn’t really changed, but we now have a logo and we no longer have our masthead in the clouds, even if there is a funky image cut-off I’m still trying to fix. The change comes on the heels of several months of changes for me and some I think you’ll either notice, or find refreshing if you’re a regular reader of this blog.

SME-TV Has Sphere Related Content

by · March 28, 2008

Surely you’ve seen this little number on blogs you read:

Sphere Related Content

We caught up with Josh Guttman of Sphere at South by Southwest (SXSW) to find out more about what Sphere is, what it does and what’s coming soon.

And special props to Josh, who rescued my credit card from Side Bar and returned it, safely, the next day. (I was too interested in the next party to worry about retrieving it apparently.)

The blogs Josh mentions are all well worth checking out. There’s the Sphere Blog, Waxing Philosophic and Bergen Carroll, the latter a neighborhood blog for his section of Brooklyn.

Pay-Per-Tweet: An Experiment In Twitter-nomics

by · March 26, 2008

I joked via Twitter Sunday evening that my 2,000th tweet (Yes, that’s what we call it and yes, it’s ridiculous.) was upcoming and for a mere $5.00 sent to my PayPal account, I would pimp your wares. Part of the reason I use Twitter is to bring a smile to people’s faces with my odd-ball sense of humor sometimes, so I figured I’d get a laugh or two.

FlipVideo Makes Web Video Simple

by · March 24, 2008

So I was sitting in the Bloghaus at South by Southwest (SXSW) one day and Ted Shelton from The Conversation Group comes up and says, “Here! Take this camera and go shoot the SXSW experience and bring it back to me. I’ll post your video on the web. Maybe you’ll even get a free camera.” I look at the unit, a FlipVideo Ultra not much bigger than a decent cell phone. It fits in your pocket and has about four buttons on it. I’m skeptical, but figure what the heck. But I never leave a chance to get a free gadget in limbo.
