26 Keys to Twitter Success

by · November 5, 2010

Have you ever wondered why some folks succeed on Twitter and others don’t? Rather than trying to convince individuals to give Twitter a whirl, I have had more luck just teaching them the lessons necessary for their success.

Here are a few key lessons that I share. Take a peek, and let me know what you are teaching to your community, business, or organization to ensure their success.

  1. Active – Many folks give up on Twitter way too early! Actively participating, even when you don’t fully get it, is the only way Twitter will make sense. This means being active both as a listener and as “Tweeter”.

10 Tips To Hosting Better Events with Social Media

by · November 4, 2010

Living in the Silicon Valley there are always events to attend. It’s not unusual to spend a day or two a month at a developer’s conference, networking event or a social media marketing summit of some kind. I recently broke my own personal record and attended three conferences in the span of six days. I presented and sat on a panel at the SocialBizWorld conference, attended BizTechDay and then the PayPal X developers conference.

Attending those great events over the last week inspired me to share few ways to use social media to spice up your own events. Read on for the goods.

Sweaty Armpits and Social Media Authenticity

by · November 3, 2010

We’ve all had it happen before. Maybe on the way to a job interview, on a first date, it might even be happening to you right now. Sometimes there’s a good reason, but sometimes it just sneaks up on you and bam, there it is: sweaty armpits.

Those pit stains are like your mistakes in social media. It happens fast; it’s embarrassing; and there’s no way to cover it up.

It’s also 100% natural. And it happens to everyone. The question is? How do you react?

Stop Hiding it. You’re Only Making it Worse

Social Media Monitoring and the “Likely Voter” Model

by · November 2, 2010

This is not a political post, but as I write this, I am on a plane headed to our election headquarters, as my company prepares to conduct the National Election Exit Polls on behalf of the major news networks. After all, if you are interviewed leaving your voting precinct, you just voted.

It’s Movember. I’m Naked. Please Get Checked.

by · November 1, 2010

It’s officially Movember, a now annual awareness takeover of the month of November by participating men everywhere who wish to raise awareness among men (and those who care about them) about prostate health and prostate cancer. Movember helps people spread the word that prostate cancer will kill 32,000 men in 2010 alone; that typically lazy or ignorant men (like me) need to be proactive about prostate health and ask their doctor for an examination. And that we need to share the concern and threat of prostate cancer to other men who may not know what Movember is.
