Watch Flash On iPads With Parallels Desktop 7

by · September 6, 2011

We’re excited about today’s launch of Parallels Desktop 7 around SME. The software allows Mac users to run Windows applications on their desktop along side Mac applications with seamless transition between the two. You can copy-paste and drag-and-drop from one to the other. We’ve tried a tested a few of these virtual PC type products before and have never been overwhelmed with their performance, this new edition from Parallels looks quite promising.

Your Brand’s Biggest Challenge

by · September 6, 2011

The biggest challenge your brand faces in its social media marketing success has nothing to do with Facebook. It doesn’t even have anything to do with technology. In fact, the biggest challenge your brand faces in business, not just marketing, is your ability to understand one simple tenant: It’s not an end sum game.

You have customers. You also have prospective customers, on- and off-line. Your competition does, too. And they will tomorrow. So will you.

Expanding Social Media Explorer

by · September 5, 2011

This week marks the fourth anniversary of Social Media Explorer, the blog. SME became a consultancy just over two years ago. Today, we enter a new era in what SME is as a company and its mission.

Last Thursday, Social Media Explorer officially acquired TechSMO, the consultancy of Aaron Marshall, another Louisville-based digital marketing consultant. Aaron is now SME’s chief product officer. While not wire-service news in the mergers and acquisitions world, we’re excited about taking Social Media Explorer from a consultancy to a company. And we’ve put some more definition to what we are. See more press release-type info with our release.

Social Media Book Reviews For Your Fall

by · September 2, 2011

The pile of unread books on my desk got so high that I had to dust a few off and produce a few book reviews so I could see over the stack at my clock on the wall. In this book review edition of Social Media Explorer TV, I talk about five books that are all pretty interesting.

The Tao of Twitter from Mark Schaefer, Zarrella’s Hierarchy of Contagiousness from Dan Zarrella, Smart Business Social Business by Michael Brito, Location-Based Marketing for Dummies from Aaron Strout and Mike Schneider and the third edition of The New Rules of Marketing and PR by David Meerman Scott are all reviewed. Depending upon your interest and place in maturity of social media marketing thought, each may be a good buy for you.

How I am Using Social Media to Change the World, and You Can Too!

by · September 2, 2011

“You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world.”  – Woodrow Wilson

Have you ever dreamt of changing the world for the better only to let “reality” talk you out of such a crazy notion because it was just too big of a task?

I’ve wanted to change the world for quite some time now, maybe it’s the teacher in me. Changing lives and changing the world are part of my DNA. But, wanting is not the same as deciding why, how and in what way the “world changing” will take place.

3 Questions to Ask Before Jumping on a Marketing Bandwagon

by · September 1, 2011

It’s tough not to fall victim to me-tooism in our competitive media landscape. There are oohs and ahhs to reap, awards to win, client and board expectations to exceed and egos to stroke. So we see something shiny and we chase it. We see a toy and call it a tool, and make it part of our marketing program.

And who can blame us? We’ve got boss/client/coworker/thought-leader/consultant/blogger/friend/avatar telling us we need to embrace (whatever piece of) technology before it’s too late.

But what if it’s too soon? What if there’s never a good time to adopt? What if we’re adopting a technology or approach that could fundamentally shift the relationship we have with our audience in a detrimental way?
