Facebook Campaign Management For Small Business Just Got Easier

by · December 12, 2011

The biggest complaint I’ve had with social media management systems (SMMS) is that few if any are focusing on small businesses. While I certainly understand the small business market isn’t ripe with big fish, there’s lots of little fish to fill that net and doing it right can wield incredible profits.

One company that has been focusing on small and medium businesses in the digital marketing space for a while now, and doing it successfully, is Constant Contact. Known primarily for email marketing, the Massachusetts-based company also has event management and survey products. While it’s not been known as a social media management solution, that all changes a bit today.

Mastering Social Media Marketing Outside of Social Networks

by · December 9, 2011

Editor’s Note: Today’s post is a guest contribution from Kipp Bodnar, a friend and inbound marketing strategist at HubSpot.

What do you think when someone says social media? Facebook? Twitter? LinkedIn? These are all valuable communities and platforms. The big mistake many marketers make when looking to drive business results from these communities is focusing only on the interactions that occur inside the walls of each network, instead of also leveraging social media’s potential on their own website, too.

The Content Strategy Burger [Infographic]

by · December 8, 2011

A good content marketing plan contains a number of different elements including theme, audience, tone, publishing channel, etc. But how do all of these components come together to form a cohesive strategy?

After reading 6 Layers of Social Media Content Strategy by Jeffrey Cohen over at Radian6, I was inspired to create a visual metaphor that assembles all these content marketing ingredients.

Although I agree with the layers discussed in Jeffrey’s post, I have a slightly different view about what makes up the ‘meat’ of an effective content strategy. Check out the inforgraphic and read the Radian6 post.

Want A Master’s Degree In Public Relations?

by · December 7, 2011

Big thanks and welcome to Full Sail University, a new sponsor here at SME. Their online master’s degree program for public relations professionals is just a click away. Hit their advertisement over there in the sidebar and sign up to get some free information about it.

Frankly, I was impressed by the course offerings for the degree. There’s a fair bit of new media and social media learning to be had there. If a master’s degree in PR is something you might be considering, it’s certainly worth a look-see.

Overcoming The Flinch

by · December 7, 2011

Julien Smith’s new book, out today and part of Seth Godin’s Domino Project, is essentially about overcoming our core human instincts to flinch under pressure. Granted, flinching isn’t always bad — it can protect you from danger — but the main type of flinching Smith hopes we can work around are the types that keep us from controlling our destiny, accomplishing our dreams and doing the things we truly want to do but are often afraid of.
