Should Your Packaging Explain Your Product?

by · January 17, 2012

Product packaging is certainly not a frequent topic we cover here on Social Media Explorer, but I received a gift recently that, frankly, I couldn’t figure out, even after I opened it. Oddly, after I went to their website, I was able to ascertain what the product was, but only through context clues and assumptions. I still can’t figure out what this product actually is or does in some sort of official way from the brand.

Win Free Stuff Tomorrow With The SME Holiday Extravaganza

by · December 15, 2011

To celebrate the holiday season, I’ve decided to host a webinar called the Exploring Social Media Holiday Open Topic, Free Stuff Extravaganza. It’s tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. It’ll be open topic, so you can ask me, or any of the other folks who happen by the call … I’ve heard rumors that DJ Waldow, Tom Webster and perhaps some others might make it … anything you’d like to ask. If I don’t have an answer, I promise to make one up that will suffice. Heh.

Inspiring The World With $10 And A Laptop

by · May 30, 2011

Greg Hartle is an amazing guy. He had it all, lost it all, almost died, got healthy, gained it all back and then decided to do something strange to most of us: Gave it all up. He’s currently touring the country, starting with nothing but $10 and his laptop, eschewing previous networks and financial resources, depending upon his own ingenuity, creativity and the generosity of others, to show that it doesn’t take having friends or money to create something amazing.

SME’s Pass Winner Soaks Up BlogWorld

by · May 27, 2011

We knew we were picking the right person to receive our free, full pass to BlogWorld & New Media Expo a few weeks ago when we chose Justin Sullivan. A home remodeler diagnosed with rheumatic fever and left to face a career unable to perform the taxing, physical tasks his profession requires, Justin was hoping to learn and grow into a role as a marketing person for his family’s remodeling business. But he didn’t have the experience or training to dive right in.

Spring Book Reviews: Four For Your List

by · February 18, 2011

It’s that time again. When the stack of books I’ve been asked to review gets so high, I feel bad about not taking a few off the top. So I’ve put together another video review of four books I think are worth your time and effort for this spring. Each has some application to the social media marketing and online communications world.

My friends Josh Beatty and Mike Casto, old buds from my Doe-Anderson days, have designed and built an iPad accessory system called Modulr. With their unique iPad case, you mount your iPad to your office wall, a table or desk stand, a handy carrying strap and etc. It allows you to take your iPad wherever you want, but use it in more stylish, permanent placements when you’re stationary.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Provides Tweener Tablet

by · December 4, 2010

The folks at Samsung reached out to me last week to see if I’d like to try a Galaxy Tab. I’d hear about the 7-inch tablet and thought it might be worth checking out. I explained to them that I don’t really review gadgets, but if they didn’t mind no guarantee I’d blog about it, I’d be happy to play and tell them what I thought. They said all they would ask is that I tweeted about my experiences, so I gave them my address. And for disclosure sake, I’m not receiving anything other than the Tab for a couple of weeks. I have to return it.

My friend Greg Verdino’s new book MicroMarketing is out from McGraw Hill. It’s a solid offering full of awesome case studies and practical tips for embracing and understanding the brand-to-consumer role of digital marketing in the social era.
