We here in the US are beginning to have to deal with the issue as a result of a massive move towards “Fracking” for natural gas. Millions of gallons of water, laced with a myriad of toxic chemicals, are pumped deep into the earth to fracture the rock which releases the trapped natural gas. The result is a huge amount of polluted water wells. The film-maker, Josh Fox, made a movie exposing the practice. Many of us have likely seen the part of GASLAND where methane gas is lit on fire from a kitchen faucet.
