Bingo. It IS important for a brand to be consistent in its voice, but in corporate tradition that typically equates to draining every bit of humanity out of a process. Your Social Voice should *not* sound like it is being copied and pasted from an HR manual.

Number three is my favorite because it's simple and extremely effective.

A lot of people forget that customer service is not about playing defense, it's about playing offense. People don't like phony sales-speak and they don't like to be sold. Small town rules always win and that starts with ditching the company tone and voice.

Company's should care about what their customers are saying, even if it's unrelated to the company. Knowing what your customers really care about is the most important part of getting them to buy, whether it's a Tim Tebow fan or a Claude Monet collector.

Glad it helped!

The secondary lesson here is that we often get stuck thinking about a tool for the way everyone else uses it, and not for other applications. Knowing what these sites and services do helps us identify solutions when called upon.

You're welcome, Annie!

I recommend Posterous, because the Private Posts feature allows you to share with others on an ad hoc basis. Also, since it is email based, it is quite easy to populate.

For example, when I have something to share with my boss, I just add the private@posterous.com address to the bcc: line, and it's there. It's a part of my workflow, and takes no additional steps.

Evernote is great too, because of the quick screen-capture utility. And when you use the WIN-A click to create a note from a website, it automatically grabs the URL too.

None of this has to be painful...
