The books for me to review has piled up yet again, and it’s a good time to talk about some summer reading, so I put together a little video review of five offerings worth paying for. A couple of them have been out for a month or so, but I’m a notoriously slow reader when it comes to books and two of them were more than 200 pages, so forgive me. I did read them all, even took some notes and dog-eared some pages.

Here’s what I thought about The Power of Pull by Hagel, Brown and Davison; The Zen of Social Media Marketing by Shama Hyder Kabani, Engage! by Brian Solis, Inbound Marketing by Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah; and The Referral Engine by John Jantsch. All the links in this paragraph are direct links to the book’s purchase page on Amazon. If you don’t mind purchasing and having me benefit, please click on the book covers below and use my Amazon affiliate links. Thanks for the cheeseburgers.

The Zen of Social Media Marketing looks good. I'm going to add it to my Amazon Birthday Wish List. :)

Nice list. I still have a few of them to get. Of course, mine comes out in August, just a bit late for summer reading!

Haven't checked any of these out yet Jason. Guess I better get on it!

A book that I'm about 3/4 the way through right now and one I highly recommend every marketer reads is “The Next Evolution Of Marketing: Connect With Your Customers By Marketing With Meaning” by Bob Gilbreath. Gives some really great insight as well as some killer case studies.

Definitely a book that makes you think outside the box…

Hey Jason – I agree with all of your suggestions as I've read each of these books as well (buy that orange one) and still can't believe what an awesome bargain books are. Thanks for the nice review of The Referral Engine. It's funny, but I didn't start out to write the book that brought all this stuff together, as you mentioned, but somehow that's what happened and thankfully people seem to be getting that from it.

Excellent information. I've been looking for goos resources with book titles on several business topics; marketing is one of them. Sometimes, the other entrpreneurs I interact with ask me about good and worth reading books on business subjects. I will recommend this, and I will also read the ones I haven't read yet!
    Thank you for the advice.

I have read some really good marketing books myself. I'll be sure to look up one of these. Every book has something new to offer and the more you read, the more ideas you get on how to make your website known.

I think I've got a copy of Shama's book coming my way already – awesome! As soon as I read about that one, I wanted it! And you just reminded me about John Jantsch's book – I may have forgotten to put it in my Amazon wishlist, so awfully glad I popped over here – because, my dad just gave me Amazon GC's – book time! Woohoo! (I just turned 40 – oh my!)

I recently got “Rework” and I'm loving it!! Have you read it yet?

    Jason,

Thanks for this post. I keep a running list of marketing books that I read to teach myself about Social Media Marketing and personally improve. I am reading The Zen of Social Media Marketing right now and agree with everything you said. I look forward to picking up Inbound Marketing and The Referral Engine to read when I get done with Zen and re-reading Naked Conversations.

Thanks and you have a new fan. I'll see what I can do about that cheeseburger situation.

Thanks for sharing…I've read only two of them so far. I've put them into a nice list here – http://twtpick.in/2K and added one more book to the list. I included your cheeseburger links as well ;-)

Social media marketing is not my strong point so I might read more about these books before ordering one. I still believe all the information is freely available online :)

Cheers for the heads-up, Jason – may check a couple out :)

One that I'm really enjoying at the minute is “Social Pollination” by Monica O'Brien. It actually came out last year, but it's a great solid intro to SM for small-to-mediums, as well as anyone that just wants a good grip on SM and which platforms to use.

    Cheers!

Hi Jason – that's a good list but I need more books like I need a hole in the head, lol. I need some more time!

I have started buy more CDs to listen in the car but now find myself driving the long way around when the book's good. And, I'd heard about that Zen one so maybe I'll swing it on the next order.

    Thanks for the great posts
