The Cautionary Tale Of Mom (And Other) Bloggers

by · October 20, 2010

Last month I was asked to speak at the Modern Media Man (M3) Summit, an event that was probably the first male-centric blogging and social media conference. When I was first asked to give a talk for what I thought of as BlogHer for men, I was specifically asked to talk about the role of blogs and bloggers in relation to brands and companies, to help educate bloggers in attendance about the world of brands, marketing and public relations and help bridge the gap between that world and that of bloggers who may or may not want to interact with companies.

It’s Not About Influence, It’s About Trust

by · July 19, 2010

If you did a tag cloud on what was being bounced around the social media echo chamber in the last 14 days, the word “influence” would probably be the largest. Yes, even larger than “Old Spice.” Whether it’s the sadly lacking Fast Company Influence Project or the various voices in the social world trying to defend or attack it, we’ve suddenly become obsessed with measuring influence, finding out who is influential and figuring out how to generate influence.

Postrank Makes Online Media Relations Easier With Top Blogs Lists

by · January 14, 2010

One of the most tedious and frustrating facets of public relations in the new media era is identifying the best blogs to add to an outreach list. For the longest time I have had a rather eye-rolling reaction when people mention FriendFeed. The life streaming service certainly has its merits and aggregating all of your social activity into one place is a nice function. However, using FriendFeed as your primary place of interaction constricts the number of people you can interact with (not everyone uses FriendFeed), while conversely, avoiding FriendFeed means it becomes an impersonal, automated broadcaster of what you do.

How To Pick The Right Blogs For PR Outreach

by · January 9, 2009

I gave a talk to the local Blugrass Chapter of PRSA today inspired by my PRSA International session with Heidi Sullivan and Jay Krall from Cision entitled, “Not All Blogs Are Created Equal.” While the PRSA International version was more robust and contained some great insights and information from Heidi and Jay, it was an hour-long presentation I had to fit in 30 minutes.

What follows is the presentation I gave, focused on how to find relevant blogs for outreach, how to differentiate between them for prioritization and some pointers on blogger outreach from my perspective.
