The Power of A Blog

by · January 26, 2012

Why are blogs such a powerful communications tool in the arsenal of a company? There are lots of reasons, really. But the explanation I’ve used that normally gives those who don’t quite understand blogging have their “ah-ha” moment is a simple one. To understand the power of a blog you have to compare it to something familiar.

Think about your company newsletter. If you’re not that hip to blogging yet, your company newsletter is probably still printed and circulated in everyone’s box in the mailroom. Or maybe it’s mailed to everyone’s house. But in some form or fashion, some printed piece of information is circulated monthly or bi-weekly to everyone in the company. There are pictures of new hires, company softball team news, maybe even some tips and tricks articles for the sales team and a list of birthdays.

A Corporate Blogging Tool Worth Blogging About

by · April 21, 2010

If you are a regular reader here at Social Media Explorer, you know that I’m a strategic advisor to Compendium Blogware and have been involved in a corporate blogging research project with Compendium CEO Chris Baggott, corporate blogging expert Debbie Weil and fellow social media marketing practitioner Jay Baer. Our research to date has shown that as many as 80 percent of corporate blogs report that the vast majority of their traffic comes from first-time visitors, erasing the myth that we blog for some loyal community.

Blogging Tips From An A-Lister

by · February 19, 2008

Rob May built BusinessPundit.com from scratch to one of the top 3,000 blogs on the planet at one point according to Technorati. A co-founder of the Carnival of the Capitalists and one of the first business bloggers in the blogosphere, Rob started blogging in 2003 when Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit.com ignored his business submissions. Suffice to say, he has some wisdom when it comes to blogging. As his final days at BusinessPundit.com approach (he’s sold the blog), Rob sat down with Social Media Explorer to give aspiring bloggers out there some pointers on hitting the A-List.

Top Business Blogger Calls It Quits

by · February 18, 2008

Thursday will mark the end of an era in blogging, of sorts. Rob May of BusinessPundit.com will post his last entry there. He has sold the blog to Ryan Caldwell, proprietor of snarky entertainment blog Popcruch.com, who has hired what we’re sure he hopes is a suitable replacement for Rob.

May started BusinessPundit.com in 2003 after Glenn Reynolds at InstaPundit.com ignored his submissions and emails of business articles. Soon, Rob was attracting many a business-thirsty blog reader with his interesting link leads and thoughtful commentary on the business world. One of Louisville’s intellectual elite, Rob quickly established himself as the same in the blogosphere and became Louisville’s first A-list blogger.
