Cradles to Crayons – #GivingTuesday

by · March 26, 2013

Children have no control over the world they are born into. I think this is why any organization that aims to make the lives of those born into poverty or other less than desirable situations always get my attention.

Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth to age 12, living in low- income and homeless situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. They supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities that have with communities that need.

No Kid Hungry – #GivingTuesday

by · January 29, 2013

I’m currently reading The Dude and the Zen Master. It is a great read as you are allowed to be a fly on the wall for a series of conversations between two friends. One of them happens to be the actor and photographer Jeff Bridges who I’m a big fan of. They get into a big conversation about starving children in our country and the work he is doing as an ambassador for the No Kid Hungry campaign from Share our Strength.

The timing couldn’t have been better as I was getting ready to sit down and write this week’s #GivingTuesday post.

Amazing Things Will Happen if You Give to a Non-Profit Today

by · December 25, 2012

As many of us wind down for the holiday season it’s easy to focus on our time with our family, the wonderful gifts we’ve received and how annoying our mothers are. Family time is special and it should be celebrated. But it’s also a time when we are the most generous, so let’s use our generosity for some serious good. Today is not only Christmas, it is also #GivingTuesday. The Giving Tuesday movement was primarily created to provide a spotlight for giving around the Black Friday Shopping craze and it was certainly successful as reports show a 42% increase in online giving during that time. However, I think Giving Tuesday could be something much bigger and it’s time to think about putting more thought to our giving than just throwing $100 at a charity at the end of the year (though this is a great way to make up for not giving throughout 2012…hint…hint). What if we all gave $10 to a charity every Tuesday? What impact would that have? Well to start we would increase our total donations to $520 a year. Imagine how big of a difference that $420 could make. Imagine the difference a 420% increase in giving could make if it caught on and it wasn’t just you and I, but it was the entire readership of Social Media Explorer? Now that’s a movement that could have a huge impact.

Headed To NYC For SMX Social Media, IMNY Charity Party

by · October 13, 2007

I’ve already blogged about how excited I am to be going to SMX Social Media in New York this week. (Yes, I’ll be blogging at least daily, if not more, so stay tuned.)

When I made that first post, Chris Winfield of 10e20 and the Internet Marketers of New York, commented. Winfield is presenting at the conference and (I’m assuming) one of the organizers of the IMNY’s Charity Party Monday night to kick off the event. The event, sponsored by Best of the Web, raises money for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
