Don’t Shoot the Messenger

Social media may be the new shiny communications tool that’s all the rage with the cool cats now, but truthfully, very little about it is really new.

No, not that kind of medium.

Remember the axiom “Don’t shoot the messenger”? It exists as an old saying because before the web, before mobile phones, television, radio, the telephone, and the telegraph, the job of transmitting communications across long distances was handled by people.

As obvious as this may sound, it still needs to be said: “Social media is people.”

Overcoming The Corporate Fear Of Blogging

An executive of an organization looked me dead in the eye recently and said, “I am not comfortable with what people are saying about my product on the Internet. How do I stop them?”

Without FearThe readers in tune with the world of social media probably just got a chuckle, but it’s no laughing matter. It isn’t a laughing matter because the vast majority of marketing and communications decision-makers would say the same thing and be dead serious. For those people, here’s your answer: You can’t.
