Sharing Is The Cornerstone Of Social Media Success

by · October 19, 2010

I have a piece of paper enumerating my Twitter strategy tacked to the bulletin board in my office. When I tell people about it and report what the paper says, they laugh. My Twitter strategy is pretty simple: Share Good Shit.

But it’s more than a Twitter strategy, it is, in my mind, the fundamental essence of becoming a socially connected business or person. It answers the puritanical call-to-action from social media advocates past. Give to get. Provide value.

How To Post Google Reader Shared Items To del.icio.us

by · January 22, 2008

“Sharing is Caring”I click on “Share” in Google Reader. Some magical web 2.0 wand waves and the post is automatically bookmarked on del.icio.us. I thought this should be a simple process. But when I started diving into it, I realized the Yahoo-Google competitiveness probably wouldn’t allow it. (Yahoo owns del.icio.us.) Of course, this is just big company paranoia on my part. Del.icio.us doesn’t seem to offer the ability to import bookmarks from an RSS feed, making the Google Reader shares to del.icio.us easy, so it’s really just a matter of the site’s user options.

It’s Always More Fun To Share With Everyone

Curious George Soundtrack CoverMy two-year-old son loves the movie “Curious George.” This means we watch it at least once a week. If it weren’t for the fact that I really enjoy the music, mostly original tunes by Jack Johnson, I’d be sick of it by now.

For Christmas, Grant (read: My thoughtful wife, Nancy) got me the “Curious George” soundtrack and sing-a-long album. One song I found particularly appropriate to sample a few lyrics here is “The Sharing Song,” which I gather is written by Adam Topol and Zach Gill but sung by Johnson.
