One of the social media tools I get the most use out of yet see the fewest people adopting is social bookmarking. For the purposes of this post, I’m going to refer to Delicious.com quite a bit. Not only is it my social bookmarking mechanism of choice, but it is the one utility essentially geared for just that — bookmarking. Not voting, or front page-getting or popularity contests. Delicious is about a place to store your favorite sites and share them with your friends along that network if you choose.

How To Improve Blogs In 4 Easy Steps

by · November 16, 2007

When I was eight I wrote an essay, certainly for some fascist language arts teacher, which I began with the phrase, “I was born at an early age …” I thought it witty. She thought it C-level work, the grade not professional rank, and it’s a good thing, too. But the thought occurred I don’t have to lock in a meet-and-greet schedule to connect with important or cool people.

So what’s the conference attendee formula for winging your way through the game and racking in the friendship chips? Here are the five things that will help me at BWE this week:

Dumbing It Down: RSS Feeds For The Rest Of Us

by · November 2, 2007

CricketsAbout two minutes into a sales presentation for a recenlty-monetized feed subscription service, I looked around the room. Deers in headlights. Crickets chirping.

“Hold on!” I said, raising my hand. “Give me 60 seconds.”

I then turned to my clients and explained what an RSS feed and RSS feed reader were. The room lit up with it-getting and the salesman continued his spiel.

To his credit, he had no idea how tech-tarded his audience was and, considering we were meeting on the development of the client’s website, could have resonably assumed the topic wouldn’t be over their heads.
