Shocking Secrets Of The Social Media Elite

by · May 11, 2009

I’ve learned a lot traveling about and getting to know the social media superstars over the last couple of years. Most of them, I’m proud to call my friends. After today’s post, I’m sure there will be a few in question. Because it’s high time someone shed a little bit of light on the reality of who these people really are.

Here’s a list of 16 social media big-wigs and some little known facts about them.

Weekend Fun With Sarah East And The PopCrunch Show

by · September 27, 2008

We spend a good deal of time talking very seriously about social media, the social web and how businesses and individuals can use it here at Social Media Explorer. But the core of social media for a lot of people is fun. PopCrunch.com is one of the most well-trafficked and well loved celebrity gossip blogs on the Internet. It’s popularity has grown at an accelerated rate since the site added a web-TV element in The PopCrunch Show, an edge-pushing, bawdy take on weekly celebrity news featuring the lovely Sarah East. Sarah makes distasteful humor digestible because you don’t expect those kind of punch lines out of such a sweet looking lady.

A Twitter-Told Tale

by · August 13, 2008

Thanks to Twitter, I will no longer have to suffer the indignity of cutting tomatoes with a dull knife.

As you’ve no doubt surmised, (not to be confused with “summize“) there’s a story behind that statement.

Last week, I noticed that I had reached 400 followers on Twitter, the microblogging tool.  While it’s still a small number compared to Jason’s account, it was a milestone for me–so I tweeted about it.

A couple of folks picked up on my tongue-in-cheek plea for swag:

So I went off on a nice little humorous riff:

Ski-Dooing Falls: What Really Happened

by · January 11, 2008

So the video from my previous post was a tad misleading. Yes, Marcel Lebrun from Radian6 took me Ski-Dooing. But I used video from one camera and edited it to make the point I wanted to make about networking socially. The other camera (we also shot some fun stuff for a future episode of The Daily Idea) had the highlight on it.

My YouTube title for this is “Dude Jokes About Wrecking Ski-Doo; Promptly Wrecks Ski-Doo.” It’s classic Jason “Murphy’s Law” Falls in action.

Enjoy!

Friendster Now Available In Spanish

by · November 29, 2007

Got a cute little thing in my email today:

El Friendster

That’s great! Now you can be a member of an online community with no pulse in two different languages.

My challenge to you is to comment with how you say the following phrases in Spanish:

1. Hello? Is anybody here?
2. I didn’t know a website could have rust.
3. Two words … “has” and “been”.
4. Oh, hi! Didn’t know anyone was around. I’m not on here much anymore. If you want to find me, friend me on Facebook.

Thanksgiving, Daily Idea Style

by · November 21, 2007

Most of you know I don’t have much spare time. What little I do have normally is spent with my son, Grant, who is (I’m convinced) the reason I was put on earth. However, I do have a lot of fun working on The Daily Idea with Todd Earwood and Rob May, (and Jay and Chad and Nikki, too.) even occasionally making a cameo appearance.

Today’s Daily Idea, though, features a certain handsome portly man as the man-on-the-street interviewer. We wanted to have fun with the holiday and give everyone a little chuckle so Todd let me just be me and interview people. (I can assure you he edited heavily.) Enjoy!

8 Things Conference Officials Don’t Advertise

by · October 19, 2007

Having recently returned from SMX Social Media and gearing up for Blog World Expo and Executing Social Media – yes, I’m going to be conferenced out by Thanksgiving – you could say much of my spare thought has centered around conferences, networking and the like. Many of my SMX friends have posted recaps, thoughts, and opinions about the event that are far better than anything I could offer, but the subject matter of conferences in general is top-of-mind.
