Building A Scalable Social Business

by · September 21, 2011

Even companies deemed advanced users of social technologies are still deficient in their implementation and approach. That was the conclusion of the latest report from The Altimeter Group, authored by Jeremiah Owyang. The research that came from that report will be the subject of Jeremiah’s opening keynote at the Awareness Exploring Social Media Business Summit in Boston, Mass., on Oct. 17. The extended early bird registration ends THIS SATURDAY, Sept. 24. Reserve your seat on our registration page or below.

Expanding Social Media Explorer

by · September 5, 2011

This week marks the fourth anniversary of Social Media Explorer, the blog. SME became a consultancy just over two years ago. Today, we enter a new era in what SME is as a company and its mission.

Last Thursday, Social Media Explorer officially acquired TechSMO, the consultancy of Aaron Marshall, another Louisville-based digital marketing consultant. Aaron is now SME’s chief product officer. While not wire-service news in the mergers and acquisitions world, we’re excited about taking Social Media Explorer from a consultancy to a company. And we’ve put some more definition to what we are. See more press release-type info with our release.

Help Clean Up Louisville And Louisville Clean Up!

by · August 22, 2011

As you know from last week’s announcement, I’m one of eight competitors in the Ford F-150 EcoBoost Challenge. I’m in competition starting today and running through Friday with seven other online influencers in seven other cities to see who can A) Average the best miles per gallon each day in our super-cool Ford F-150 EcoBoost trucks; B) Get the most votes on Facebook; and C) Drive the most volunteers to our community service project activity. That community service project is this Saturday and I’ve chosen what I’m going to ask Louisville to join me in doing to help our community.

Okay Louisville, Let’s Kick Some F-150 Booty!

by · August 18, 2011

I’ve been asked to represent Louisville in the Ford F-150 EcoBoost Challenge next week. The company’s blogger outreach and community service campaign to help spread the word about the environmentally friendlier F-150 EcoBoost is pitting me and my Louisville community against seven others (Houston, San Diego, Pittsburgh, Denver, Kansas City, Orlando and Raleigh-Durham) to see who wins free Shell gas.

And the free Shell gas isn’t just for me if Louisville wins! Shell will designate two locations in the winning city on Sept. 3 and for 2 hours and 22 minutes (the F-150 EcoBoost gets 22 miles per gallon), give up to 15 gallons of free gas to any car that pulls in! SWEET!

A Flurry Of Activity For Social Media Explorer

by · May 9, 2011

The next three weeks or so are going to be incredibly busy for me. But that normally means I’m going on the road and I get a chance to meet many of you in person, see you again if we’ve already met and perhaps even hang out for a while and have some valuable off-line social networking. Because there’s just so much going on this month, I wanted to spell it all out here and make sure you didn’t miss me if I’m coming to your town.

Content Marketing Lessons from Warren Buffett

by · April 5, 2011

Warren Buffett would have made an excellent blogger.

Unfortunately, he’s too busy finding places to stack his piles of money to give it a shot but he really could have been something special.

He’s been through highs and lows in the stock market, and has always managed to come out on top. Along the way he’s learned a lot of valuable lessons, and a much of it can be applied to content marketing.

Some of his best insight:

“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”

Reader Poll: What Book Should Jason Write

by · December 7, 2010

I can assure you this is little more than a lark, but I’d love to hear what you have to say. I’ve been approached a couple times about writing a book and have never felt the need or desire to do such. Still, the idea is intriguing, though I wouldn’t want to write just another social media marketing book.

So take a gander at the poll question below and tell me what  you think. What should I write about, if I were to do so at all? Philosophy, practical/tactical stuff, overall marketing philosophy, not about social media at all, pulp fiction, non-fiction about my crazy family? Love to hear  your feedback.
