My Hatred Of Memes Is Only Overcome By My Like Of The Memer

by · July 8, 2008

I loathe a good meme. Actually, I loathe memes in general, but the cadence is off without the word “good” in the previous sentence. Certainly, if they do something constructive, like Kami Huyse’s “Thanks for the Influence” one, I’m game, but to tell stories about yourself or list your favorites always seems very high school kids in MySpace-y to me.

[flickr style="float: right"]photo:326652141[/flickr]It’s also rather useless information since any good blackmail material I’ve volunteered for all to see. You shoulda seen some of those ole MySpace memes I participated in. I came this close to having several relatives never speak to me again. Guess I didn’t try hard enough.

I’ve Got Your 8 Things Right Here, Pal

by · January 4, 2008

I fart in your general directionSo the evil Dave Fleet tags me with the 8 Things meme. Damn Englanadians. Just for that, Dave, I’m coming up there this week to throw snow balls in your general direction.

(Kidding Dave. I’m flattered you chose me. Unfortunately, now you’ll have to read the whole thing.)

I find it rather amusing this meme is still around. I’m fairly certain it was one of the first to splash around MySpace and other blog-friendly social networking sites a few years back. At first it was five things. Then someone got greedy and made it 10. Now, I see, the practical business crowd has come to the realization that five isn’t behind the curtain enough and 10 is TMI.

Thanks For The Influence

by · November 21, 2007

Thanksgiving is one of the few times a year I pause from my normal routine of sarcasm and savor moments, memories, friends and family. I suppose that’s the point of it all, but it’s easy to take things for granted and “suffer” through another holiday with annoying family members.

Water RippleSo, surprising to those who know me, being tagged by Ike Pigott in Kami Hyuse’s “Thanks for the Influence” meme is a welcome project as the holiday approaches.

And for the record, I have been promoted from eighth generation meme tag-ee to second generation (Kami started, tagged Ike, who tagged me.) so I’m moving up in the world. For that, I am thankful!

Media Snackers Welcome Here

by · October 30, 2007

It’s official. I’m the Web 2.0 equivalent of upper-middle management. (Not neccessarily a bad thing, I guess.) Just six days after Jeremiah Owyang started the “Do You Respect Media Snackers” meme, I’ve been tagged.

YES! LESS THAN A WEEK! BOO-YAH!

And to boot, I’ve been tagged by the thinking man’s PR wizard, Ike Pigott. (And concurrently by conversation queen Valeria Maltoni at Conversation Agent, though I was unaware of it and added this line after posting … sorry Valeria, and thanks!) So, I’d like to thank the Academy of Cool Social Media and PR Bloggers for allowing me to join the likes of Chris Brogan, Kami Huyse, Todd Defren, Kevin Dugan, Connie Bensen, David Yeo, Connie Reece, Lauren Vargas, Geoff Livingston and a bunch of others in responding.
