Talking Downloadable Media And Podcasting With Susan Bratton

by · September 25, 2008

Susan Bratton of Personal Life Media and I caught up at Blog World & New Media Expo last weekend. She was there promoting the Association for Downloadable Media of which she is vice-chair. It is a professional organization working to solidify advertising standards for downloadable media like podcasts, web-TV shows and the like. We spent a few minutes chatting for an episode of SME-TV.

Old School Social Media Pt II: Podcasts

by · September 22, 2008

A while back, I threw out the idea that message boards are the unsexy, old school workhorses of social media.

If it’s true that message boards and forums were doing “online community” before “online community” was hot, then it’s probably equally true that podcasts were making media portable and doing “pull” marketing well before everyone went widget-crazy last year.

As a former radio announcer, and a former podcast cohost, podcasts are another older social media format that is near and dear to my heart, and one of which I think we’re only beginning to tap the potential value.

Business Websites Just Got Smarter, Cooler With Podcast-Serving Widget

by · August 14, 2008

I’ve been pitched story ideas on about 100 different widgets in the last six months. This widget does that. That widget does this. Rarely do I write about them because few of them do anything different. It’s just the same crap in different mascara. Besides, I’m starting to grow tired of the word, “widget.”

AccuQuote\'s Podcasting WidgetHowever, I found one that not only has a very cool concept, but that launches today on the websites of — get this — mainstream businesses that are pushing third-party content they do not control to their customers, all in the name of a more enriching website experience. (My first question to Susan Bratton, president of Personal Life Media who pitched the idea to me, was, “Can I have your clients have a word or two with some of Doe-Anderson’s clients? Please?)

Web Video Editing And Production For Dummies

by · April 14, 2008

[flickr style="float: right"]photo:177117996[/flickr]Ask most social media experts and a common prediction for the future of the web bubbles to the top. The next big thing is commonly thought to be video podcasting, v-logging or Web-TV. Call it whatever you want, but web video is on the rise, and for a variety of reasons. First, the medium of video offers a level of engagement far more compelling that just audio or text. Aside from stimulating more of our senses, the barrier to entry for web video is at an all-time low.

Myxer.com Puts Mobile Media In Your Hands

by · March 18, 2008

Downloading ringtones and wallpapers for your cell phone can be frustrating and costly sometimes. I’ve only downloaded one of each just to see how it all worked. I paid $1.99 or something like that for both, neither of which I really liked because they weren’t mine. (Granted, this was over a year ago, so save the “you’re stupid” comments, please.)
