Do Social Media Monitoring Services Leave Brands Blind?

by · August 17, 2011

Valuevine released a study today that indicates keyword based social media monitoring platforms may leave as much as 82 percent of the online content about a brand out of the data it reports back to brands. The information was collected by analyzing what CEO Neil Crist told me was “following best practices” for keyword-based social media monitoring solutions like Radian6, Sysomos and the like, and comparing it to the data his tool collects from location- and local-focused check-in, ratings and review sites.

Social Media Monitoring Made Simple

by · January 14, 2011

If you’ve been monitoring social media for mentions of … social media monitoring, you’ll likely have noticed more people discussing how to listen better on behalf of your brand.

There are tools. There are services. And there are case studies on how your organization can sift through social media static and glean out useful nuggets.

The overload of information can be a little overwhelming and after a while all the advice on sifting through the static starts to sound, ironically, like more noise.

Exploring Social Media Monitoring: An Industry Survey

by · February 24, 2010

You could say the social media monitoring industry has been the single fastest-growing niche in the world of technology over the past three years. As more companies engage in social media, participate in conversations and launch social media initiatives, the demand to monitor what is being said and analyze that data is critical for companies to not only read and react, but also fund and staff social initiatives.

Because social media monitoring has been one of my favorite topics here on Social Media Explorer, I’m asked my opinions of the tools regularly. I try hard to review different ones as often as possible without this becoming a blog about social media monitoring exclusively. But the industry seems to be growing, and becoming more competitive, with each passing day.

The social media monitoring space keeps getting more and more crowded as early startup success stories like Radian6 and K.D. Paine and Partners have been joined by both newcomer startups and established PR-related companies who have broadened their offerings. The latest to throw its hat into the ring is PRNewswire with its Social Media Metrics tool set. Like the other monitoring services, the product promises to allow you to listen to conversations about your organization, target the most influential social media sources for outreach, engage and analyze the buzz and ultimately report it all in a neat package for the executives.

Ever since I reported on the launch of Scout Labs, I have had people ask, fairly or not, how it compares with Radian6. It’s no secret that I use Radian6 at Doe-Anderson, am good friends with many of their employees and have recommended them to people left and right for a long time. Scout Labs appeared on the scene in February after two years of testing and development and they have a very nice social media monitoring tool.

5 Essential Social Media Strategies for a Bad Economy

by · February 27, 2009

Everywhere you turn someone is talking about how bad the economy is. From the housing markets to the stock market, optimism is a trait that you would be hard pressed to find. Depending on which news channel you watch and what economist you listen to, the prognosis is that before it gets better it probably will get worse. With the job market shrinking and budgets becoming tighter, it’s vital that you have a strategy in place especially if you’re hoping that social media will play a role in career advancement or new business.

Thursday Seems A Day For Twitter

by · June 25, 2008

It’s impossible for me not to write about a collaboration of two of my favorite things in social media. Chris Brogan (okay, technically not a “thing” per say) and Radian6 are teaming up for the first ever Twebinar on Thursday. The concept is cool: While you’re watching a pre-recorded interview Brogan has done with several of the top leaders in social media, a side channel of Twitter conversation will be going on around it. Needless to say, if you have trouble multi-tasking, you’ll wind up with a headache.

Exploring Social Media Measurement: Radian6

by · January 15, 2008

My recent trip to Canada offered me the opportunity to sit down and learn about one of the fastest growing social media measurement firms on the market, Radian6. In an effort to share some insight into them, I visited with CEO Marcel Lebrun for this little video to show you more about them.

I found Radian6 through Twitter as David Alston, their VP of Marketing, who messaged me when mentioning social media measurement. They’re growing fast and for good reasons: A good product and great people working on it.

Cool Benefits Of Social Networking

by · January 11, 2008

When you take social networks off-line, I call it networking socially. A few months ago, I was Twittering about social media measurement with David Alston, responded and said I should look into Radian6, his company. I added them to the list of firms I was reviewing to provide such a service to a client of Doe Anderson’s and then grew my social network through Twitter to include several other Radian6 staffers and even some others they knew in New Brunswick.
