Your Next Favorite Book: The Now Revolution

I struggle to read books sometimes. The only ones I fly through are those with some modicum of engaging writing style and about baseball. Some books it takes me months to get through just because I have the attention span of a gnat.

But on Tuesday of last week I picked up my hot-off-the-presses copy of The Now Revolution by my friends Amber Naslund and Jay Baer. I started reading on a flight from Tampa to Austin. It was 3:05. I put it down, completely read, cover-to-cover, at 4:45. I didn’t even stop to pee.

How To Know If Your Business Is Social

Sitting beside Janice on a flight is a fascinating experience. She’s naturally social and refuses to let you not be. Mind you, she isn’t annoying or overbearing, but pleasant, friendly and interesting. She asks questions that make you feel important, a part of her life though you’re really not. She’ll interject a factoid or two about her own story if the opportunity presents itself, but mostly puts you on stage and appreciates your little soliloquies of self-reflection.

You’re going to hear more and more people in the social media space start using the term “social business” in the coming months. It will likely replace “community building” as the corporate catch phrase of the moment. Trend setters in the industry like Charlene Li, Jeremiah Owyang, Peter Kim and random other former Forrester Research employees now cashing in are already tossing it around. It puts a prettier wrapping paper on the larger payoff for what social media thinkers do.
