Social Media Book Reviews For Your Fall

by · September 2, 2011

The pile of unread books on my desk got so high that I had to dust a few off and produce a few book reviews so I could see over the stack at my clock on the wall. In this book review edition of Social Media Explorer TV, I talk about five books that are all pretty interesting.

The Tao of Twitter from Mark Schaefer, Zarrella’s Hierarchy of Contagiousness from Dan Zarrella, Smart Business Social Business by Michael Brito, Location-Based Marketing for Dummies from Aaron Strout and Mike Schneider and the third edition of The New Rules of Marketing and PR by David Meerman Scott are all reviewed. Depending upon your interest and place in maturity of social media marketing thought, each may be a good buy for you.

Vaynerchuk’s Thank You Economy Hits Stores This Week

by · March 5, 2011

When Gary Vaynerchuk asked if I would review his new book, The Thank You Economy, last week, I was cautiously optimistic I could even finish it in time to review before it hits shelves this Wednesday. I was also cautiously optimistic I’d like it. Not only did I finish it, but I loved it. And recommend you read it, too. Here’s my review:

Thank you, Gary, for writing this book and for firing us all up again. And thanks for bringing some more depth to the table with this effort. I was pleasantly surprised at the research and case studies presented and think the business audience is going to get a lot out of this. I’m glad I got to read it. Thank you!

Spring Book Reviews: Four For Your List

by · February 18, 2011

It’s that time again. When the stack of books I’ve been asked to review gets so high, I feel bad about not taking a few off the top. So I’ve put together another video review of four books I think are worth your time and effort for this spring. Each has some application to the social media marketing and online communications world.

Marketing Books For Your Summer Reading List

by · May 26, 2010

The books for me to review has piled up yet again, and it’s a good time to talk about some summer reading, so I put together a little video review of five offerings worth paying for. A couple of them have been out for a month or so, but I’m a notoriously slow reader when it comes to books and two of them were more than 200 pages, so forgive me. I did read them all, even took some notes and dog-eared some pages.

Four Books Worth Reading

by · September 18, 2009

I’ve been getting a lot more books to read lately. Publishers and PR folks, and a few selected authors who are friends, must think reading and reviewing books is part of my job description. The good news is, I like reading the books. The bad news is that I don’t have time to do so at this volume.

However, I have recently finished a couple of books worth letting you know about. And I’m halfway through another I can tell you is worth the price of admission. Instead of writing everything down, I figured I’d talk about them and show them off in an episode of Social Media Explorer TV. Enjoy.

The Authoritative Book On Social Media Finally Published

by · July 27, 2009

It seems like everyone who has a blog or presence of substance in the social media space is writing a book these days. In fact, I’ve actually had several people follow up an introduction to me with, “So what book are you working on?”

I’m not presently working on a book, thank you. When I have a good idea for one, I’ll let you know.

Yes, there are a handful of very good books out there that I would recommend people read if they are interested in learning more about social media, but if you or anyone you know is presently writing a book about social media, I would encourage you to save your energy and stop right now. The authoritative book on social media marketing has finally been published.
