What Every Company Should Know About Social Media Policy

A social media policy is a company’s first line of defense against risk in social media marketing. Shockingly, only one in three companies has a social media policy in place. While I’m sure that the majority of marketing managers and decision-makers who read Social Media Explorer are ahead of the curve, there’s a good chance your company doesn’t have a written policy.

*UPDATE* – eMarketer published a story and research on companies without social networking policies just hours after we went live with this post. 69% of American companies do not have social networking policies for employees.

The Role Of Anonymity In Social Media

A new website for the display and discussion of creative work relative to the advertising industry debuted in Louisville recently. CreateLousville offers up either submitted or administrator-posted executions from a wide range of media then opens the discussion among the community, via the blog’s comments. Their mission:

CreateLouisville.com is a forum for constructive criticism and stimulating conversation. We want to get better at our craft, and help raise the bar on work that comes out of our city. We’ve found that the only way to do that is to first admit that there is always more to learn, no matter how long you’ve been in the industry.

Does your company support your participation in social media? Are you apprehensive about admitting you work there when you comment on blogs, participate in forums or list your workplace or contact information on social networks?

Employee AshesChances are those of you reading this blog have discussed your social media participation with your employers or you work for yourself, so the questions are more rhetorical than direct. But think about the millions of people out there who either choose to separate themselves from their professional life in online activities or are forced to do so.
