World Of Warcraft Starlet Tells Of Path To Web Celebrity

by · October 27, 2010

Those who were expecting to read the last installment of my three-part series on Content Interest Index will have to wait a little longer. Instead I’ve decided to lighten things up. I recently paid a visit to Gigi, also known as PVPGurl. By combining two of her many talents — playing World of Warcraft and being her charming self — Gigi has accumulated over 35,000 YouTube channel subscribers and racked up millions of views to her videos. Social media is everywhere and for a lot of businesses they approach it likes it’s the magic wand that’s going to be the savior to their business. When you begin to talk to them, usually the conversation starts like this. “Can you help us with that Twitter thing and that Facebook thing, not to mention it’s vital if you can produce for us one of those viral videos. It begins as a brilliant idea that sparks an emotional response. These emotions ignite a fire that spreads throughout the community.  With a comment on a blog, a stream of Twitter messages and even a video reply on YouTube the fires rage to what you thought was a good idea. Your good idea backfires and now you have to deal with the consequences of what happens when good ideas go astray.

With the current economic crisis, it’s becoming very common to hear of large corporations who can no longer generate revenue to meet payroll and pay their vendors. Corporations that have generated billions of dollars as well as held large market shares are now fighting to stay alive. The question that dominates many conversations is, “who’s next?”

This afternoon while commuting home from the office, I was listening to my local public radio station. The show’s host was engaged in a conversation concerning the future of General Motors: its need for more government funding and the possibilities of what would happen if GM had to file for bankruptcy.
