I’m thrilled to be speaking at Blog World and New Media Expo this year. And while there are some similar discounts floating around, I’m also thrilled to offer you, readers of SocialMediaExplorer.com a 20 percent discount on the price of admission to the event. Blog World & New Media Expo (or BlogWorld for short) takes place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 and 21 in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Las Vegas Convention Center, just next to the Las Vegas Hilton. There is an Executives & Entrepreneurs day of sessions as well on Friday, Sept. 19.

Blog World & New Media ExpoTo register, visit the registration page here. When it comes time to pay, use the discount code, “JFVIP” and you’ll save some money on the deal. Early bird registration ends Aug. 22 (Friday) but the code is good through Sept. 1

I will be speaking as part of three different panels. My own topic, “Putting Social Media In The Newsroom — How New Media Can Help Old Media Maintain Relevance,” takes place at 11 a.m. local time on Sunday, Sept. 21. My panelists include Jeremy Pepper of Boingo and Pop! PR Jots, Mark Story, the manager of Investor Communications at the Securities and Exchange Commission and an adjunct professor at Georgetown University (not to mention former Sr. VP at Fleishman-Hillard Interactive) and Daniel Honigman, Social Media Strategy Coordinator at the Chicago Tribune.

Later on the same day, I’ll serve as moderator for Patrick O’Keefe’s panel, “Avoiding Disaster: How Not To Use Social Media,” which will focus on brand behavior in online communities, blogs and etc. My fellow panelists are O’Keefe, author of Managing Online Forums and chief hoo-ha at iFroggy.com, Lee LeFever of CommonCraft.com video fame and (scheduled to appear but man with new baby so tentative) Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.net.

And no, it’s not lost on me that I don’t belong on the same stage with those folks, but wait ’til you see the next one.

The third panel I’ll serve on is one close to my heart. Jeremy Wright of b5 Media asked me to join a panel he was proposing but not serving on that focused on the topic of Bloggers and Public Relations. The point is to air out the issues bloggers have with PR and vice-versa and explore solutions to ensuring all parties move forward with a more effective and efficient relationship. My co-panelists are Michael Clark of PlanetMike.com and contributor to The Apple Blog, Brian Solis of PR 2.0, bub.blicio.us, and FutureWorks and Chris Brogan of ChrisBrogan.com and Cross Tech Media.

The event will be a personal and professional thrill for me and I hope you can join me.

Speaking of which, I need to throw out a little personal recommendation on BlogWorld for you. I attended last year and essentially hung out with Rob May and Todd Earwood the whole time. We networked, met lots of new faces and generally had a blast. The three of us along with Brogan and some others hung out one night at Fat Tuesdays, a mall bar in the Hard Rock Cafe that happens to be managed by Biff, a buddy of mine from college. It’s a dorky little cafe-type thing that serves margaritas and so on. But we had a blast. And if you’re going early, I’ll be there Thursday night, Sept. 18, hanging with my boy Biff.

But I’m also trying to engineer something more cool, too. There’s this really cool bus that is decorated in a, shall we say, red wax kinda scheme, that I’m trying to make sure pays a visit to Vegas that weekend. I’ll keep you in the loop. Should be a blast.

Bottom line, it’s a blast. Come to Blog World and join us.
